If persons of age more than 40 years is having multiple CV risk factors like smoking, increased BP, obesity, diabetes, family history of premature death due to CVD, persistent elevated cholesterol i.e. LDL C, post menopause women, are at high future risk of CVD. Hence in such individual few lifestyle intervention and if required few preventive medications like statin etc. may be required.
Preventive Measures:
- It has been advised to check your BP, Glucose parameter like HbA1c, cholesterol level once annually once you reached at age of 40.
- Tobacco avoidance is critically important for CVD prevention.
- All adults should attempt to engage in regular brisk physical activity most days of the week to help lower future CVD risk.
- A diet high in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains is best. Fish, legumes, and poultry are the preferred sources of protein. Minimizing the consumption of trans fats, added sugars, red meats, sodium, and saturated fats is also important.
Making healthy choices at age 40 increases the chances of staying healthy as age progress. So let’s be ready to set the Tone of heart healthy life at 40.
