What is Arrhythmia? What are the tests and diagnostics of Arrhythmia?

Arrhythmia is a medical condition where the heart beats abnormally or irregularly. This can result in the heart beating too fast, too slow, or in an irregular pattern. Arrhythmias can be caused by a variety of factors, including heart disease, stress, medications, and genetic factors. Dr. Kartik Bhosale will likely perform a series of tests and diagnostics to determine if you have an arrhythmia, what type it is, and what is causing it.

What are the tests and diagnostics of Arrhythmia?

There are several tests and diagnostics that can help diagnose an arrhythmia, including:

  1. Electrocardiogram: First we go for ECG i.e. Electrocardiogram. An ECG measures the timing and duration of each electrical phase in the heartbeat. If we did not find any significant abnormality in it then usually we go for Holter monitoring.
  2. Holter monitoring: This is a portable ECG device that can be worn for a day or more to record your heart’s activity as you go about your routine. If the events are very infrequent then we go either for an Event recorder
  3. Event Recorder: which is again a wearable ECG device or Implantable loop recorder which is implanted under the skin in the chest area to continually record the heart’s electrical activity. If we don’t find any arrhythmia during those tests, we may try to trigger the arrhythmia with a Stress test, Tilt table test, or Electrophysiological testing and mapping.
  4. Stress test: This is a test that measures the heart’s response to physical activity. It can help detect arrhythmias that may only occur during exercise.
  5. Electrophysiology study (EPS): This is an invasive test that involves inserting catheters into the heart to measure its electrical activity. It is used to diagnose and locate the source of arrhythmias.

To find the cause of arrhythmia we go for Echocardiogram i.e. Heart sonography and certain blood tests also such as TFT and Electrolyte levels.

So by enlarge first we diagnose the type arrhythmia with some Non-invasive tests and if required invasive tests and subsequently we also tests for any reversible cause for this arrhythmias.
